What these platforms do and do not do
A recruiting platform gives you a structured public profile, a place to host verified numbers and film, and in some cases a way for coaches to search and shortlist athletes. What none of them can do is create interest that your production and outreach have not earned.
Treat any platform as distribution, not a guarantee. The promise of exposure is not the same as a coach opening your film.
Features that actually matter
Judge a platform on whether a coach can understand you in one screen on a phone, and whether you can update your own data in seconds.
- check_circleOne public URL that loads fast and looks credible
- check_circleVerified stat fields with testing method, not free-text bragging
- check_circleFilm embedded, not buried behind a login
- check_circleSearch and shortlisting tools coaches use without paying
- check_circleDirect messaging with a real inbox, not a contact form
- check_circleAnalytics showing who viewed your profile
Red flags
Be cautious with high-pressure sales calls, four-figure packages sold as guaranteed placement, mandatory long contracts, and platforms that keep your profile private unless you upgrade. Coaches do not pay to look at athletes; profiles hidden behind a paywall are invisible.
How to evaluate in ten minutes
Open a public athlete profile on the platform on your phone. Time how long it takes to find class year, position, one verified number, and film. If that takes more than fifteen seconds, a coach will not do it either.
Where AthletiLink fits
AthletiLink keeps athlete profiles public and free to create, keeps coach and scout search free to use, and gives athletes view analytics so they can see which outreach is landing. You own the link and can update your numbers the same day you set a new PR.
