Trials

Football trials and open sessions near you

Trials are the shortest route into a club, and most players find out about them too late. AthletiLink lists open sessions and clubs actively recruiting, and gives you a profile to send ahead so the coach knows who you are before the whistle.

Finding trials that are worth attending

A useful trial has a named club, a level, a date and a stated position need. Anything that has none of those is a paid session with a trial label on it.

Check the level honestly. Turning up two levels above your current minutes wastes a Saturday; one level above is where players actually move.

  • Open trials and sessions listed by city and sport
  • Clubs recruiting by position and level
  • Message the coach before you attend
  • Send your profile and film ahead of the session
  • Track the trials you have applied to

Preparing for a trial

Coaches assess decisions more than tricks. Play your position, play simple early, and let the third pass be the ambitious one.

Arrive early, ask which position you are being watched in, and get a name and a follow-up date before you leave. Most trial outcomes are lost to silence, not judgement.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Build the profile first

Coaches decide whether to look at you before the session, not during it.

  2. 02

    Shortlist by level

Target clubs one level above your current minutes. Two is a wasted trip.

  3. 03

    Message the coach

Position, level, availability, film link. Three sentences is enough.

  4. 04

    Follow up in 48 hours

Thank them, ask for one piece of feedback, ask what happens next.

Frequently asked questions

Should I pay for a trial?

Be cautious. Legitimate club trials are usually free or carry a small pitch fee. Paying a significant sum for exposure is rarely money well spent.

How many trials should I attend?

Several, in parallel, at a realistic level. Treating one trial as the whole plan is the most common mistake amateur players make.

Does AthletiLink guarantee I will be signed?

No, and nobody honestly can. What a profile does is help players become more discoverable: it puts your position, measurables, film and availability where clubs, coaches and scouts are already looking, so the people making decisions can find and assess you.

Is it free?

Yes. Creating a player profile, appearing in the directory, listing your availability and messaging clubs and coaches is free. There are no listing fees and no commission.
