How to get scouted in football
Nobody can promise you will be scouted. What you can control is how discoverable you are: whether the facts about you exist somewhere searchable, whether your film is watchable, and whether the right people have a reason to look. This guide covers all three, in order.
Free on AthletiLink
- Public player profile with measurables and film
- Availability status for transfers and trials
- Searchable directory for clubs, coaches and scouts
- Private scouting watchlist with notes
- Direct messaging — no commission, no lead fees
AthletiLink helps players become more discoverable. Selection and signing decisions always belong to clubs and coaches.
Live tournaments & resultsDiscoverability, not luck
Scouts and club staff work from short lists, and short lists come from searches and recommendations. A player with no written profile, no film and no stated availability cannot appear in either.
So treat it as a pipeline problem. Increase the number of qualified people who can find you and assess you accurately, and the number of conversations rises. Nothing beyond that is in your control.
- A public profile with position, measurables, level and minutes
- Two to four minutes of film, best clip first
- Stated location, travel radius and availability
- Regular results and updates so the profile looks live
- Your coach briefed to answer a call about you
Film that survives thirty seconds
Assume the first thirty seconds is all you get. Open with your strongest sequence, shot wide enough that the context is visible, and cut anything that needs explaining.
Include unremarkable defensive and positional clips too. Scouts screening for a role want to see you doing the job, not only the highlights.
Approaching clubs without burning them
Three sentences: who you are and your position, your level and current minutes, what you are asking for. Film link at the end. No paragraphs about your dream.
Approach several clubs at a realistic level in parallel, and follow up once after 48 hours. Then move on. Persistence past two messages reads as noise.
Step by step
- 01
Write the profile
Position, measurables, level, minutes, availability. Honest numbers only.
- 02
Cut the film properly
Best 20 seconds first, wide angles, four minutes maximum.
- 03
Brief your coach
Ask if they will take a call about you, and what they would say.
- 04
Approach in parallel
Six to ten clubs one level up, three sentences each, one follow-up.
- 05
Use trials to learn
Ask for one specific piece of feedback every time and act on it.
Frequently asked questions
Can a platform get me signed?
No, and be wary of anyone claiming otherwise. A profile and film help you become more discoverable and easier to assess; selection decisions belong to clubs and coaches.
Am I too old to be scouted?
Amateur and semi-pro clubs recruit adults every season, so entry routes exist well past youth age. The academy pathway is age-limited; club football is not.
Does AthletiLink guarantee I will be signed?
No, and nobody honestly can. What a profile does is help players become more discoverable: it puts your position, measurables, film and availability where clubs, coaches and scouts are already looking, so the people making decisions can find and assess you.
Is it free?
Yes. Creating a player profile, appearing in the directory, listing your availability and messaging clubs and coaches is free. There are no listing fees and no commission.
