Dive sites in and around Barcelona
Illes Medes
Marine reserve, 8–30 m, tunnels, caves and huge dusky grouper.
Cala Montgó
Sheltered shore diving, good for training and refreshers.
Boreas wreck, Palamós
27 m wreck, advanced divers, excellent structure.
Ses Negres, Begur
Shallow protected reef with dense fish life; ideal after certification.
Making it a regular thing, not a holiday
The Costa Brava trip works as a Saturday: leave Barcelona early, two dives, back by evening. What makes it repeatable is a car share and a fixed group, which is why local dive clubs run the same weekend rotation all season.
Marine reserve permits are handled by the dive centre, but the Medes has daily diver quotas — book ahead in August.
- Two-dive day trips typically 70–110 EUR including gear
- 5 mm wetsuit from June, 7 mm or semi-dry in spring and autumn
- Nitrox widely available and worth it for repeat dives
