  • Osezaki, Izu

    Sheltered bay, 5–30 m, the most reliable and popular training site near Tokyo.

    Overnight ferry trip; volcanic topography and hammerheads in season.

How Tokyo divers actually get out

Weekend car shares to Izu are the standard format, organised through clubs and shop groups. Without a car it works too — trains plus a centre pickup — but a fixed buddy group makes it far cheaper.

Autumn is peak season: warm water from the Kuroshio current, calm seas and the best visibility of the year.
