Scuba Diving From Singapore: Tioman, Bintan and Weekend Trips

Singapore's own waters are silty and busy with shipping, so the diving scene runs on weekend trips — a ferry and a minibus to Tioman, Bintan or Anambas, leaving Friday night and back Sunday.

Quick facts

Season
March–October; monsoon closes east coast sites
Water temperature
28–30°C
Visibility
3–8 m locally, 10–25 m at Tioman

Dive sites in and around Singapore

  • Pulau Hantu

Local site, 6–15 m, low visibility but surprisingly good macro life.

  • Tioman, Malaysia

Weekend staple, 5–30 m, reefs, turtles and the Sawadee wreck.

  • Bintan, Indonesia

Short ferry, shallow reefs and easy training conditions.

  • Anambas Islands

Long-weekend trip; the clearest water within reach of Singapore.

Trips run on groups, not bookings

Almost every weekend trip out of Singapore is organised by a shop or club group, and the price per person drops sharply as the group fills. Finding a regular group is worth more than any gear purchase.

The northeast monsoon closes most east-coast Malaysian sites from November to February; that is when Singapore divers head to Indonesia or the Philippines.

  • Tioman weekend packages typically 400–650 SGD all in
  • 3 mm shorty is plenty year round
  • Local Hantu dives are cheap and good for skills practice
