What you need before you book a charter

Most NYC-area charters want Advanced Open Water minimum, a surface marker buoy, a redundant light and demonstrable cold-water experience. Dry suit training is effectively mandatory outside high summer.

Charters fill months in advance and rarely take solo strangers without a buddy — being part of a local club or dive group is the practical way in.

  • Charter costs typically 130–200 USD for two dives
  • Dry suit, hood and dual-outlet regulators are the norm from October to June
  • Nitrox is standard on deeper wreck trips
